“In a few short years EvoSwitch and AMS-IX have achieved great things together, not only in terms of interconnection growth, which has been impressive, but in building a deep and innovative relationship where the levels of trust are high enough for us to try out new technologies and solutions together.”

Job Witteman, AMS-IX Chief Executive Officer

2010

EvoSwitch and AMS-IX partner to facilitate the exchange of Internet traffic between content provider, CDN and ISP customers. The partnership generates growth in AMS-IX’s community and exchange traffic.

2012

EvoSwitch becomes the first data center partner for which AMS-IX uses a 100GE backbone connection. This becomes the basis for a full PoP in the AMS1 data center. Having AMS-IX present in the data center provides greater reliability and faster connection speeds for customers, as well as the ability to better manage traffic and network cost levels during large-scale live events like major sporting events.

2013-2014

In 2013, 2014 and again in 2015 EvoSwitch is awarded Gold partner status by AMS-IX. To qualify as an AMS-IX Gold Partner, companies have to introduce more than 20 new members or 100GE (Gigabit Ethernet) of new port capacity.

Partners are key to our successful growth,” says Job Witteman, CEO, AMS-IX. “In 2015, 77% of new customers joined us via a partner, compared to 74% in 2014 and 68% in 2013. Partners like EvoSwitch help us increase the AMS-IX customer base faster, while working with us lets them expand their product portfolio with a service offering which provides access to the world’s largest peering community.”

2015

Overall Internet traffic volume at AMS-IX increases by 27% from 7.1 to 9 Exabytes (around 9 million Terabytes).

Towards the end of the year EvoSwitch launches OpenCloud [www.opencloud.evoswitch.com], based on the AMS-IX regional platform, offering customers secure, ultra-low latency and cost-efficient connection options via VLAN to all the major Cloud Service Providers, System Integrators and Enterprise private clouds.

“We applaud EvoSwitch for their insight that the Cloud ecosystem can only truly thrive and grow in Amsterdam if cloud providers are accessible via a neutral platform,” says Job Witteman. “By going first, EvoSwitch is showing their commitment to a neutral and open ecosystem that will benefit all.”

2016

Take-up of EvoSwitch OpenCloud grows significantly. AMS-IX traffic at EvoSwitch AMS1 breaks through the 500 Gigabits per second threshold, highlighting its role as one of the top interconnection hubs in the Amsterdam region.

“Ultimately, both of our businesses are obsessed with new technologies and growing interconnections, so it was inevitable that we would fit well with the AMS-IX team and form a long-term and pioneering partnership.”
